Are You Hitting the Ceiling on Growth?

Every company hits the growth ceiling, often at multiple times in their life. When we talk about a growth ceiling, we’re referring to a point in your growth that seems to have “stuck,” or trailed off. It feels like an invisible barrier that you and your team just can’t seem to get above.

What Is a Growth Ceiling

The ceiling happens at different times for different companies; however, many companies face similar issues when their growth tops out. Hitting the ceiling can look like some of these things to your team:

  • Getting stuck at a point in your annual revenues
  • Focusing on building and keeping customer-basse revenue rather than adding new clients
  • Not adding enough new logos to your client list
  • Losing customers as fast as you can sell new ones
  • Long hours, sleepless nights, finger pointing and general stress on your founder and key employees
  • Competitors are able to hire away key employees
  • Projects and goals are hastily defined and often slip or miss targets
  • Feeling like you’re in a constant state of emergency instead of proactively planning your business

Often, company founders and leaders are simply to close to their own business and ideas to be able to step back and identify the choke points of their business. This is especially true of companies that started off strong and experienced strong phases of growth early on. The skills and drive that made you grow quickly can also create messy processes, poor communication and confused goal setting.

Our work in building business growth has helped us build out our main five disciplines of Enterprise Velocity. But we’ve also identified the five main choke points of growth companies. We call these choke points, “The 5 (Un)disciplines of Growth.” (Get the free report here)

We’ll be covering these 5 (Un)disciplines in future blog posts. If you’re suffering from one or more of these issues, you could be close to hitting the growth ceiling. We’ve helped many companies get unstuck and grow well past their ceiling.  If you think you could use a hand in building a business that continues to grow, lowers your stress and fosters happy customers and employees, please request a free consultation.
